A New Video from Leah Shaw // Music

I entered a video the NPR Tiny Desk Contest, and I'd like to share it with you!

I created Know Just What To Say while sitting on the floor in a Brooklyn studio while experimenting with my RC-30 Looper, and it is the first song I've ever performed live in which I made myself put down the instruments I usually rely on and only use my voice. The song is about creating space for my own choices, ideas and voice instead of relying on the direction of others. That's a lesson that's a tough but important one to learn and one I'm still learning!

EP 'Home" Now Available Online

Leah Shaw's latest EP 'Home' is now available online, featuring the 2014 Our State NC Magazine Song of the Year, 'Carolina I'm Home' as well as the tune featured in her latest music video release 'Up in New York City'. Inspired by the journey to find home in a set of ever-changing circumstances, Leah's intimate, energy-infused vocals blend soulful melodies with folk instrumentation and an alt-rock edge.

The album is distributed on iTunesAmazonSpotify, Rdio and more.

Summertime Shows

Hi all, I hope you are well!
I took a month-long summer vacation from shows in June and it was refreshing. I planted nasturtiums in the backyard and read a couple of novels. Then I traveled to Tulum, Mexico to relax, eat guacamole and accomplish a lifetime goal of singing Spanish language karaoke in a Spanish-speaking country. No me queda mas!

New Spring Single 'Countdown'

This morning, Leah Shaw released her Spring single 'Countdown'. Optimistic and romantic and a little bit country, the song features Brendan Hackett on vocals, Daniel Seriff on electric guitar and bass and Jonathan Green on drumset. Tracking was done by Philip Weinrobe in Manhattan and by Daniel A Seriff who also mixed and produced the song at his studio in Winston-Salem NC.

Please enjoy!

Happy Spring From Leah

April 3rd, 2015
Hey, ya'll!
Well this has been a pretty jubilant month. It became Spring, for starters. I got to play shows in New York and shows in North Carolina, my favorite states. And, I found myself collaborating with musicians who are longtime favorites on new music releases, and then there's been some incredible new friends who passed my way and it's made for a month full of musical highlights. Can I tell you about some of them?

Happy Blizzard from Leah

Good evening, all!
The video I submitted of original song "Up in NYC" for the NPR Tiny Desk Concert Competition is doing wonderfully; the views just keep climbing, so thank you for taking time to view and share it! You can follow the competition on NPR's blog where new featured artists are chosen every day. I hope to be one of them!

"Up in New York City" Filmed High Up

The video views keep climbing, and I'm excited to see what the other entrants submit for the competition, which is available on a Tumblr blog. I hope to make my way onto the blog. Please follow along with the competition!

The video was shot by Shane G Mahon and vocals and percussion were provided by the incredibly talented Aviva Jaye.

NC Singer-Songwriter of the Year

What a great fall! My original tune 'Carolina I'm Home' was chosen as the winner of the Our State NC Singer Songwriter 2014 Competition Winner. I had the chance to visit Raleigh, NC on a VIP pass to the International Bluegrass Music Association Festival which moved this year to Raleigh for the first time. I heard some musical heroes and some awesome up and coming musicians, and had a chance to perform my winning tune at Deep South the Bar.
